Outdoor locations are a great way to bring life to your family portraits. This Dayton Christmas Mini Session was a perfect opportunity to add some rather festive nature to my client’s images.
Charles and Dorothy Young Christmas Tree Farm
Just south of Young’s Jersey Dairy in Yellow Springs, you’ll find Carl and Dorothy Young’s Cut Your Own Christmas Trees. Carl was the co-founder of the Young’s with his brothers Bill and Bob. In the early 80s, Carl and his wife Dorothy began planting Christmas trees and by 1985, established their tree farm.
Their family traditions continue with Carl’s son Ben now running the show with his children. The farm remains a beloved destination for Daytonians to select holiday trees — and capture family portraits!
Dayton Christmas Mini Session at Young’s
Surrounded by Scotch Pine, Canaan Fir, Concolor Fir, Norway Spruce, and White Pine, these outdoor portraits were taken back in October. Hosting Christmas Minis earlier in the year helps my clients get back their images on time for ordering holiday cards, and more! I offered a few other portrait opportunities this holiday, including Pictures with Santa at my sister’s studio Noir Studio Space in Lebanon.
October happened to be an unseasonably warm month, but everyone powered through in their sweaters and layers. It was so nice to be outside for these sessions, even in the 70-degree weather.
Booking Your Christmas Mini Session
This year’s sessions are booked up fast! Many of my clients are repeat clients, but mini-sessions are a great opportunity to meet new clients as well. I love helping my clients prepare for their session and what to expect by supplying a lot of inspiration like what to wear, and how to pose. I share a lot of this information in my Private Facebook Group, The Lounge, where I give more than 270 clients the VIP treatment.
