The Blandford family came across my photography with a simple Google search for photographers near the Lebanon, Ohio area. I love nothing more than meeting new clients, especially those who have done their research and fell in love with my luminous and dreamy family photography style. We landed on a Cox Arboretum photography session given that the arboretum is only about a 30 minute drive from downtown Lebanon and the family wanted their photos taken outdoors.

The Blandford’s decided on a full luxury family photography session. This is the session I recommend to families looking for a a full photoshoot experience and to those who may not be able to make these sessions a yearly occurrence. It’s the perfect way to get a large collection of family photos to share for years to come.

Cox Arboretum Photography Session

One thing that sets me apart from other family photographers, is that I actually have two little one’s myself! This has helped me know how to prepare kids for the photos and how to bring out those genuine smiles. Aria and her younger sister Rya were a great reminder of how much I love working with kids. The girls were so sweet and kept wanting to give me hugs throughout their entire session. I just love that they felt comfortable with me. It definitely helps in getting great, authentic photos.

Cox Arboretum is a free MetroPark in the Dayton area with over 180 acres of arboretum and park making it a great location for a photoshoot! I definitely have my list of favorite locations around the park, but am always open to collaboration to find a space that fits your perfect vision. Having a variety in landscape can be a lot of fun for kids as well. As soon as they start getting comfortable (and maybe a little bored) standing for photos in one spot, we are able to move to a new location to spice things up.

The arboretum is beautiful in every season, but the fall brings out something special. Done are the bright of summer and in come the muted natural tones of fall. Those colors mixed with the golden hour light of this photoshoot, lends to the most magical atmosphere.

Planning the Perfect Fall Family Photoshoot

If you have been following along with my blog, you know how much importance I put on finding the perfect wardrobe. When it comes to wardrobe, I like to call myself your personal shopper. The clothing that a family wears for their family photographs is so important to the final product. I always want to make sure my clients are happy with, and comfortable in, the clothing they wear for their family sessions.

Before the session, we had a wardrobe try on with Kaity and her two girls, Aria and Rya. The girls did so great. We ended up ordering a special dress for Aria because she loves a longer, flowy dress and most of the dresses I have for her age group are closer to knee-length. It was super important to me to find a dress that she loved. She ended up loving the long dress and said she looked like Elsa from Frozen ha!

During the fitting, Kaity didn’t love the fit of the dress she had picked via email. She loved the color but wasn’t crazy about the cut of the neckline. So I found another dress that was the same color but had a different fit and cut. She fell in love! Since it was a bit chilly the day of the shoot, Kaity paired the dress with a jean jacket. Jackets and cardigans are always a great layering piece, for both warmth and fashion.

Speaking of Kaity, can we talk about how gorgeous her makeup turned out?! I just had to get a close up. The pinkish mauve tones suit her coloring so well and the slight shimmer is wonderful to photograph. The hair and makeup gals at Salon Noir in Lebanon do amazing work yet again!

This Cox Arboretum photography session was such a blast with the Blandfords. Even though it took place in peak fall in October, I love that the family stayed true to their color palette and didn’t lean super far into the oranges and reds for the season. Staying true to yourself is always the key to getting the photo results that you’ll love for years to come.
