The Gem City Mama at Work
How long have you had your own business/worked for yourself? I’ve been working for myself in some capacity for the past 5 years. I did a couple MLMs, dabbled in the influencer/blogger world, and have finally landed in the realm of social media management.
Explain what types of services you offer, and your target market. My company, Dark Moon Social, is a social media management company. Our current service offerings range from simple social media strategy assistance, design, photography, and full-blown account management.
Where is your business located/operated? My business is wherever I am. The beauty of social media is that it’s mobile and everything I need to help my clients is literally at my fingertips via my phone or laptop. To be more specific though I’m located in the Dayton, Ohio area and work mainly from my home office.

How many kids do you have? Ages? I have two daughters age 11 and 4 as well as two bonus kiddos!
How has being a mom shaped your work/life balance? It’s forced me to really look at what’s important in life and adjust accordingly. Sure I have emails or some design work I could be doing at any given time of day but if my girls ask me to snuggle for a bit or take time to have a meal/snack with them I’m going to do that first. They won’t be little for long and those moments won’t be available to me forever. The work will still be there.
What are your biggest challenges being a small business owner who’s also a mother? Time. I wish I could just get an extra hour or two a day sometimes. We’re an active family and my husband also works remotely and shares office space with me so between his schedule, mine, and the kids I’m all over the place. All I can say is thank goodness for google calendars, I don’t know what I’d do without them.
